Foster Homes

by Akshi Chadha

oh lost ones
making homes out of people
who aren’t here to stay

water the roots
flood them over

drown

petulance
doesn’t prolong
hospitality

people aren’t real
they’re mist

intangible as a yesterday

all wanderers
all nomads

a home not yours

jump onto one
after another
like foster homes

repeat

so here’s
some crackers and tea
and a promise

of false eternities.
